Terms and conditions

These terms are the agreement between you and Birrly for the Telegram bot, the Telegram Mini App, the website at birrly.com, and the Android app Birrly Bridge (together, the "Services"). By creating an account, signing in, or using any Service, you agree to these terms and to the privacy policy.

If you use the Services for a household, a group budget, or on behalf of someone else, you confirm that you have authority to bind that person to these terms for the use you start.

The service

Birrly is a personal money companion. You record income, expenses, budgets, savings, debts, and reminders. Remaining cash is calculated from what you logged. Birrly does not invent a balance.

The Services include:

What Birrly is not

Birrly is a notebook and companion. It is not a bank, wallet, payment institution, lender, broker, or insurer.

Who may use Birrly

The Services are for adults managing their own money. You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live if that age is higher. Birrly is not directed at children.

You may use the Services only where doing so is lawful. You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply to you, including rules on record-keeping and on sending or receiving money.

Accounts

You sign in with Telegram. Telegram is your identity. We do not issue a separate Birrly password. The Telegram account you use controls access to the ledger linked to it.

Your ledger

You decide what to record. Transactions, categories, budgets, savings, debts, notes, and related records you create are stored so the bot, the website, and Birrly Bridge can show the same ledger.

Birrly Bridge and SMS

Birrly Bridge's core function is to turn new bank and mobile-money text alerts into transactions so you do not type them. The Android permission to receive SMS is optional. If you decline it, the rest of your Birrly account still works without automatic SMS detection.

How SMS is handled is also described in the privacy policy. If these terms and the privacy policy both speak to the same SMS behaviour, the privacy policy controls how data is collected and the terms control how you may use the app.

Shared budgets and savings

If you create a group budget or group savings goal, people you invite can see and use that shared space as the product allows. If you join someone else's group, you can see the shared records in it.

Free and Premium

A free tier is available with the limits shown on birrly.com and in the Mini App. Premium raises those limits and adds features such as higher AI use, extra planning tools, and AI Money Coach. The live feature list and prices on birrly.com and in the Mini App are the ones that apply at the time you subscribe.

Payments

Premium is paid with Telebirr from the Mini App subscription screen. You must include the unique reference code we give you. We activate Premium after we match that payment to your account.

Birrly does not store your Telebirr PIN or wallet password.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Your content

You keep ownership of the ledger entries and other content you submit. You give Birrly a non-exclusive licence to host, copy, display, and process that content only to operate, secure, and improve the Services for you and for people you have shared a budget or goal with. This licence ends when the content is deleted from the Services, except for copies kept only as long as needed for security, dispute resolution, or law.

If you send feedback or suggestions, we may use them without obligation to you.

Our intellectual property

Birrly, the Birrly name and logo, the software, the copy on birrly.com, and the way the Services are designed belong to Birrly or its licensors. These terms do not give you any ownership in them. You receive a limited, revocable, non-transferable right to use the Services for your personal ledger, subject to these terms.

You may not copy the product, reverse engineer it except where the law does not allow that restriction, or use our marks without permission.

Privacy

The privacy policy explains what we collect, how Birrly Bridge handles SMS, how long we keep ledger data, and how to delete your account. Account deletion is available at birrly.com/account/delete, in Mini App settings, with the bot command /deleteaccount, and in Birrly Bridge.

Third parties

Telegram operates the login and the chat surface. Telebirr processes Premium payments. Google Play distributes Birrly Bridge when you install it from the store. Your phone manufacturer and mobile network carry SMS. Those parties have their own terms. We are not responsible for outages, policy changes, or decisions by those providers.

If you installed Birrly Bridge from Google Play, you also agree to any terms Google requires of Play users, in addition to these terms.

Availability and changes

We work to keep the Services available, but we do not promise uninterrupted or error-free operation. Features may change, and a beta or experimental feature may be withdrawn. Maintenance, third-party outages, and events outside our control can interrupt access.

We may update these terms. When we do, we change the date at the top of this page. If a change is material, we will also give a notice in the product or on birrly.com when we can reasonably do so. If you keep using the Services after the new date, you accept the updated terms. If you do not agree, stop using the Services and delete your account.

Suspension and ending use

You may stop using Birrly at any time and delete your account using the paths in the privacy policy.

We may suspend or close access if you break these terms, if we must do so to comply with law, or if your use creates a security or abuse risk. Where we can do so without increasing that risk, we will tell you the reason. Unused Premium time is not refunded when we close an account for breach, except where the law requires it.

Disclaimers

The Services are provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent allowed by applicable law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement, and any warranty that the Services will be accurate, complete, or available at a particular time.

SMS parsing, chat parsing, reports, and AI output can be wrong. Do not treat them as a statement of your bank balance or as professional advice.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by applicable law, Birrly and its operators, staff, and suppliers are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or lost money arising from your use of the Services. This includes a missed or incorrect SMS parse, a wrong category, downtime, or a decision you make based on a report.

Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability for claims arising out of the Services in any twelve-month period is limited to the amount you paid us for Premium in that period, or 1,000 ETB if you paid nothing, whichever is greater. Nothing in these terms limits liability that applicable law does not allow us to limit, including liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence where such a limit is prohibited.

Indemnity

You will indemnify Birrly and its operators against claims, damages, and reasonable costs arising from your content, your breach of these terms, your misuse of SMS access, or your invitation of others into a shared budget, except to the extent the claim is caused by our own breach or wilful misconduct.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts in Addis Ababa have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising out of these terms or the Services, except where applicable law gives you a non-waivable right to bring a claim somewhere else.
